General Question - hostfile/DNS; web site shows iis.htm and IIS 7.0/F5 load balancer

Hello fellow IIS Administrators:

Can anyone answer this one and give an explanation?

Today, I launched our Intranet site where it presented iis.htm in IE and Chrome.

The site is hosted on two servers where an F5 Load Balancer serves requests.

One of the servers was taken out of the pool in the F5 unit.  Then it was put back in.  I have always accessed sites via a hosts file.

I access the site where in my host file has an ip address and a hostname. No issues - pre-xmas.

I tried another machine and the site rendered fine.

I checked my ad groups and checked folder permissions and added myself to the site's folder with no effect.

At one point, (from my machine)IE and IIS was rendering the site with old content (from months ago).

I found to make it work - i'd clearout my host file and cleared the cache so these bits contained nothing.

Then site was rendering fine.

I think this was odd and I do not understand why I had to do this.....!

Has anyone had this issue and can they explain how this occured?

Cheers.
